For most of my life, I struggled with my weight. I tried the diets, the workouts, the willpower—everything people say should work. At one point I lost over 100 pounds, but like so many people, I learned that weight loss is rarely simple and maintaining it can be even harder. My journey forced me to dig deeper into the science of metabolism, hormones, and the real barriers that keep people from feeling their best. What I discovered is that traditional medicine often overlooks a huge part of health: vitality, body composition, and quality of life. That realization ultimately led me to open Body by Barker. Body by Barker was created to give people the kind of care I wish had existed during my own journey—care that looks beyond calories and willpower to understand hormones, metabolism, and the whole person. My experience shaped the mission of the clinic: helping people regain control of their health, confidence, and energy with science-based, personalized care.

I can’t even begin to express how impressed I am with Dr. Barker. Words just can’t express it! I have seen many doctors and none of them even come close to my experiences with Dr. Barker! Dr. Barker has the bedside manner and patience of an angel. She is unbelievably kind and generous with her time. Dr. Barker is an amazing listener. Body By Barker was the catalyst that basically saved my life. I was an addict for 12 years, and although I got clean, and have been for 7 years for 6 of those years I couldn't get out of bed, I had zero motivation to live life, my mental health was in the gutter, and I felt and looked terrible. Opiates destroyed my endocrine system along with my mind and body. Body By Barker found my testosterone levels were that of a 90-year-old man, at age 34, I was deficient in vitamin D, and had too much estrogen in my body for a man. "Weight, low self-esteem, and self-love have always been an issue for me. I struggled for a long time to understand why it was so hard for me to lose weight. I had begged my PCP to check my thyroid, knowing it ran extensively through my dad's side of the family, but it was always just the normal stuff (TSH,T3,T4), because I was in range, I was "fine." In 2021, I trained for my first half marathon. I was eating well, not really watching what I was eating, but the weight was dropping, and I felt great. In September, I ran my first race. Toward the end of the year, the scale started to creep back up, so I thought if I kept training, it would go back to where I felt good. Regardless of my attempts to get back to that range and running another two half marathons, I felt stuck and uncomfortable with my body. I had been watching two of my Facebook friends post about their journeys with Brittney, and in August of 2022, I was finally uncomfortable enough with my body that I started my own. I remember having two weeks off work around that time, and I hit a very low valley of emotions— despite knowing it, she saw me at my worst. At my consultation, she spent an entire hour with me talking about my concerns with my health, letting me cry when I needed to, and even sharing pieces of her story with me— something no other provider had ever done. When I left the office that day, I validated, I felt seen, and for the first time, I felt heard by a medical provider. Not that you ever want anything to be wrong with you, but the day that I received my blood work back I felt like my whole life made sense. I had Hashimoto's disease— and was finally going to get the help my body needed. “In 2021, at 30 years old, I was diagnosed with Stage 3B rectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is silent but after the birth of my daughter in 2018 I saw several medical providers regarding many changes with my body that were brushed off as being a new mom, running to much, and Covid. My body was suffering. Radiation, chemotherapy, and multiple surgeries did not make it easier. I was struggling post cancer, especially with a full hysterectomy. I thought it was hard getting medical treatment prior to my diagnosis but getting care after cancer was even more difficult until I found Body By Barker. I quickly realized after my first appointment that someone actually cared about how I was feeling and the quality of my life. It finally wasn't “you're just lucky you are alive” but “how can we help you live?” I have medical trauma. I never feel safe and I'm skeptical. "After years of "working through" various symptoms with both a local doctor that wasn't very happy that I took an interest in my health, and another that seemingly had their main interest in upping doses and adding medications to increase their revenue, I was lucky to find Dr. Barker and the fam at the Body by Barker practice. During my first appointment with Dr. Barker, she took a sincere interest in not only helping me feel better, but also in identifying and treating the root cause of the issue (one of my many) and not just my symptoms. It was a very nice change to have a doctor take the time, not rush due to being "overbooked" or preoccupied and listen and not just throw a prescription your way and send you out the door. The Day that Dr. Barker opened her doors I knew hope was available to me and change was possible. For years I had postponed and pushed away my health and feeling well from major life events . After countless attempts at getting answers from the traditional avenues , I decided to take a less common route. My body was tired , my weight was stuck and I refused to accept that as my story . In my first year I got clear answers to my lab work and why my body was in harmony and found a care plan for me. Losing 78 lbs has been the hardest and most rewarding journey of my life. I struggled to lose weight ever since I had my son 16 years ago.
